The collaboration of Deborah Hudson and Tom Donald breaks new ground in the Art of Improvisation.
Crossing the boundaries of classical music they have created their own genre of Improvised Song. They have already produced a wealth of recordings and meditation songs with influences ranging from Arvo Paart, Keith Jarrett, Sondheim and Kurt Weill, with a touch of Gershwin. All of their songs recorded so far have been an instant creation set to randomly selected poetry.
On the 27th of November, Hudson and Donald will be premiering their completely improvised creativity for the first time in front of an audience – you. The event will be supporting free expression for musicians and artists world wide. In that spirit you are invited to bring your own lyrics and poetry. These will be selected at random and turned into a song right there and then. The duo take it in turns to start and then simply continue until it feels right to stop, creating a unique song as they go.
Deborah Hudson (author of “Sing Your Heart Out”(publ by Schotts)) is a classically trained soprano and established vocal coach. She has regularly performed the standard classical repertoire, including opera, but her unique specialism is for improvised solo meditation songs. These she has performed for workshops and ceremonies in the UK, Canada and Norway.
“Deborah’s voice is like light”
Pianist Tom Donald is an improvisation virtuoso with a large list of award winning music soundtracks for European and Middle Eastern Films. He performs regularly with his trio and as a solo artist in Europe and the UK and has a thriving teaching practice in London.
Above all the songs invented by Hudson and Donald is as individual and creative as you will hear. You may not even believe they’re improvised! We look forward to seeing you and putting the improvisation virtuosos to the test!
A donation to the Music in Exile Fund will be made from the proceeds of this event. This fund has been set up by international organisation Index on Censorship which supports free expression for all artists world wide.
